Feasibility study: National powerhouse for startups and scaleups

Sweden has the potential to lead innovation and growth - but we're falling behind

Sweden has a strong foundation of innovative startups and fast-growing scaleups with the potential to build wealth for generations to come. For this to become a reality, however, a more integrated and data-driven approach is needed. Today, there is no centralized knowledge platform about the target group, which makes it difficult to create effective and targeted initiatives. This is where Sweden Startup Nation comes into the picture.

National powerhouse for startups and scaleups

SISP has gathered insights from over 1000 stakeholders - including founders, investors, incubators, accelerators, authorities and politicians - through the feasibility study "National powerhouse for startups and scaleups". The study clearly shows that Sweden's innovation system has shortcomings that need to be addressed to enable more startups to develop into sustainable scaleups and competitive growth companies.

Sweden is falling behind - and we need to act now

While other European countries are making strong investments, improving regulations and launching national strategies to promote startups and scaleups, Sweden risks falling behind. To avoid losing ground to our global competitors, we need to gather and make available data and expertise on the target group.

Sweden Startup Nation - a national platform for knowledge and growth

Sweden Startup Nation is an initiative that will provide in-depth analysis, reports and business intelligence on Sweden's startups and scaleups. The goal is to create better conditions for these companies to grow, reach international markets and strengthen Sweden's competitiveness. Through a data-driven approach, we want to give decision-makers, authorities and other actors the insights they need to shape an effective and long-term innovation strategy.

The platform will also connect Swedish actors with international forums, thus influencing policy development at both national and European level. The vision is for Sweden to become the best country in the world to start, run and scale innovative companies.

Better conditions for Sweden's startups and scaleups

Promoting innovation and growth requires a national effort. Sweden's prosperity depends on a competitive business sector that can meet global challenges and opportunities. As a small country with a limited domestic market, we are dependent on international trade and exports.

SISP's report highlights how we can better support startups and scaleups through targeted interventions and improved policy development. Now is the time to act - to create a stronger, more cohesive innovation system that can lift Sweden's growth companies to new heights.
